It's almost pointless to have effective coping mechanisms for managing your C-PTSD symptoms if you aren't consistent. Why? Because C-PTSD isn't going anywhere. It is going to show up consistently in your life until you do the work to process your trauma.
What does that mean? Your symptoms are going to continuously arise and you need to consistently regulate them using your coping mechanisms. And that, my friend, requires resilience.
So how do I take my great tools for managing the C-PTSD symptoms and apply them consistently so I can take control of my life? I use a resilience kit.
Before reading about the resilience kit, it would be really useful for you to understand what resilience is and how to build it. All of that is covered in the "Building Resilience" section of my free 6-step guide to heal C-PTSD and stop it from controlling your life. Feel free to download it here before you proceed!
Let's See The Resilience Kit Template!
In case you haven't had a chance to read about resilience in the free 6-step guide to heal C-PTSD, don't worry! Here is a summary of the stages outlined within the "Resilience" section. These are the 5 phases of building resilience:
Resilience Phase #1 - Change Your Mindset.
Resilience Phase #2 - Understanding More Stuff Is Going To Come Up.
Resilience Phase #3 - Taking Actionable Steps To Build Resilience.
Resilience Phase #4 - Realizing It's A Practice.
Resilience Phase #5 - Recording Your Way To Success.
A Resilience Kit is employed at "Phase #3 and #4" and it is your best friend when responding to any difficulties.
Now is an important time to note that the resilience kit is different from the safety kit. The safety kit should be used when your triggers have flared up and you need to feel safe again. In contrast, the resilience kit should be practiced regularly to build your resilience over time through powerful tools designed for building resilience.
So here's the link to download the template of my Resilience Kit. As I've mentioned in previous blogs, to get the most out of this resource I recommend using a free PDF editor to edit the template. (Oh and, because I love making things easy for you I’ve included this video to show how you can do that). In doing so you can build resilience, heal from C-PTSD, and be in control of your life.
Now Don't Forget...
Your plan for building resilience should be strong, and the power of your consistency will allow you to turn that plan into a way of life. You already know how unpredictable each day can be when you’re living with C-PTSD. The only way to feel like you’re truly in control of your symptoms when they flare up is to have a high level of resilience.
By having high resilience and a solid Resilience Kit to employ when times are hard you truly will be in control of your C-PTSD (instead of the other way around!). However, this will not be possible without consistency and intentional practice.
One thing that will help you to fast-track building your resilience will be to employ the resilience kit even at times when everything is going well. In doing so, you will learn how to use the tools as second nature and have a stronger resilience mindset when a challenge arises.
Finally... don’t let these steps overwhelm or confuse you. At the end of the day, the simple secret to ensure you continuously build resilience is summed up in two words: tracking progress. If you can do a monthly review of the challenges you faced, how you overcame them, and how you would have reacted to them in the past. You will see how much you have grown and how your resilience is even becoming a part of your personality.
You've got this. I believe in you. And I'm right here with you.
Love,
Bee
