Hello again! I am beyond excited to dive into this topic with you and explore the impact of cultivating a positive, compassionate relationship with yourself. Trust me when I say that this journey is nothing short of life-changing, and is pretty much guaranteed to improve how you show up for the world.
I mean it. I'm a different person since I started investing in myself.
What's more, if you follow the five steps we discuss in this article, your relationship with others will improve. That's because if you treat yourself with love and respect, you expect the same from other people. That means your standards are higher within your friendships and you cultivate the perfect environment for healthy relationships.
Sound good? Let's dive into the five actionable steps that will help you develop an extraordinary connection with yourself, and allow you to create more fulfilling connections with those around you.
Step 1: Embrace Self-Love as Your Superpower
Loving yourself unconditionally is not just a luxury; it's an absolute necessity, especially on your journey of recovering from C-PTSD. Embrace the truth that you are deserving of love, care, and compassion, even on the days when it feels difficult to believe. By nurturing self-love, you create a powerful foundation for healing and rebuilding your shattered self-esteem. Using tools like a healing schedule is a fantastic way to practice self love. It's simple, just include acts of self-love within your schedule multiple times a day and watch the relationship you have with yourself blossom.
Step 2: Prioritize Self-Care as a Radical Act of Healing
For survivors of C-PTSD, self-care becomes a radical act of reclaiming your power and prioritizing your well-being. Set aside dedicated time for self-care rituals that soothe your soul and nurture your mind, body, and spirit. Things that help me are activities that promote relaxation, grounding, and self-compassion. I love practicing mindfulness, journaling, creating art, and doing light sports. It sounds corny but not only does it feel good when I do it, but it gives my body a chance to catch up with my brain, which is so rare! Remember, self-care is not selfish; it's a transformative act of self-preservation. (P.s., If you want help with meditation I recommend the Headspace App! This is not an affiliate, just my opinion!)
Step 3: Challenge Negative Self-Talk and Reclaim Your Inner Voice
C-PTSD often leaves us with an internal dialogue that echoes the hurtful words of our past. It's time to challenge and rewrite that narrative. Recognize when negative self-talk arises and replace it with affirmations that combat the lies you've been told. Remind yourself of your strength, resilience, and inherent worth. Reclaim your inner voice, speak words of kindness and encouragement to yourself, and witness the empowering shift in your recovery journey.
Step 4: Set Boundaries to Re-establish Safety and Trust
One of the key aspects of healing from CPTSD is learning to set and enforce boundaries that restore your sense of safety and trust. Take ownership of your personal space, emotions, and energy. Say no to situations or people that trigger your trauma or compromise your well-being. Surround yourself with individuals who respect your boundaries and uplift your healing journey. By establishing healthy boundaries, you create a protective shield that supports your recovery and fosters healthy relationships.
Step 5: Seek Support and Connection
Recovering from CPTSD can be an isolating and challenging journey, but you are not alone. Reach out and seek support from professionals, therapists, and support groups specializing in trauma recovery. Connect with fellow survivors who understand the intricacies of your journey. Share your experiences, fears, and triumphs with individuals who can offer empathy, validation, and guidance. Building a support network of understanding souls is a powerful step toward healing and growth. Check out the online communities I recommend here. They've all helped me out at some point.
As we wrap up this post, I want to leave you with a quote that never fails to inspire me: "You can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first." It's a gentle reminder that by nurturing your relationship with yourself, you create a ripple effect of love and kindness that extends to everyone you meet.
I believe in you and the incredible journey you're embarking on. Embrace these actionable steps, be patient with yourself, and celebrate each milestone along the way. You're on the right path and I do not doubt that your connections with others will flourish as a result of improving your relationship with yourself.
Here's to love, compassion, and the beautiful journey of self-discovery!
Love,
Bee
